Canadian Society of Marine Artists Nautical Artist
Picton, Ontario, 2 July 2015

Jean Leroux elected to the Canadian Society of Marine Artists.

Jean Leroux graduated from École des beaux-arts de Montréal in the mid 1950s. He then started his professionnal career as a sign painter. In the mid 1960s he joined Radio-Canada initially as a mural painter for set backgrounds in television studios. From the late 70s until his retirement, he finished his career as a set designer in the scenic department.

Fascinated by the ocean waves, he always painted transatlantic sailboats and ocean liners. His style combines accurate reproduction of the vessel with his own personnal interpretation of the sky and sea.

It is with the greatest pleasure that the Canadian Society of Marine Artists wishes to announce that Mr Leroux has been elected to the Membership of the Society.

A sample of Mr Leroux's work may be seen here.

The Canadian Society of Marine Artists promotes excellence in marine art, accepting that art is in the eye of the beholder and believing that the broad notion of "fine arts" - including both two and three dimensional works - and "excellence" should be used as guidelines. To maintain excellence, admission to the Society as a full member is by jury of the artists' peers.
