It is with great pleasure that the Canadian Society of Marine Artists announces that Mr. Lloyd Pretty of Stephenville, Newfoundland, has been invited by the Members to join the Canadian Society of Marine Artists.

Mr. Pretty was born in Chapel Arm, Newfoundland in 1944. As a child he started drawing but there was a scarcity of paper and pencils. At 21 years of age he moved to Montreal and upon discovering the art galleries began oil painting. He has been painting full time since 1979 and his favourite subjects are marine and seascapes. He continued painting after moving to Halifax and worked during the next eight years with the Atlantic Art Galleries. In 1982 he moved back to Newfoundland. His works hang in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia galleries, and in various Federal Government departments and with Parks Canada. Corporations such as Bell and Newtel, Fortis, Shell Canada, Yamaha, and Toyota Canada display pieces by Mr. Pretty. He has been teaching art for thirty years and has held over 300 workshops in Atlantic Canada. His works are well represented abroad in Ireland and Australia.

The Canadian Society of Marine Artists is dedicated to those Canadian artists who have been and always will be inspired by our oceans and lakes, our ships and those who sail in them.
