In 1993, Deep-Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, split away from "Part II" and now is devoted to the publication of the results of original scientific research, the solution of instrumental problems, and new laboratory methods in the marine sciences. It is unique in the field of oceanography in its interdisciplinary approach covering a wide variety of subjects related to the geological, physical, mathematical, chemical and biological aspects of the ocean, the sea floor and the boundary layer between the atmosphere and the ocean.
