25 amazing years for the Naval Naval Archive was celebrated at the Victory, the 21st of October 2024. Well over 100 attendees joined in to honour the achievement of a truly remarkable milestone – a world class reference library providing an important service to the public. The dedication of the members and the donors were honoured for their part in creating this unique treasure ensuring that knowledge and information is available to the public today and a legacy for all children in our future.
Steve Ferguson, Mayor of the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward presented a Certificate of Recognition to the Naval Marine Archive:the Canadian Collection, which acknowledged the adherence to excellence and the promotion of education about the maritime heritage centred in the County and expanding worldwide.
The caterer, Chris Byrne prepared delicious canapes with a specific maritime touch as there were sails, anchors and boat shapes that added fun enhancing the special flavours. Music set a traditional maritme mood to party as Bill McBurney and Marc Despault sang sea shanties and and other popular tunes. All this gave a perfect nautical ambiance to the event and allowed everyone to join in with these familar songs.
Visitors enjoyed catching up with one another and meeting new acquaintances who shared the enjoyment and pursuit of our history especially both maritime and aeronautical. We had the historians and professors, the boat builders, naval personel and the yachting community sharing their stories. They also purused various titles in the library and enjoyed the marine art.
Towards the end of evening the final event was our Director Matt drawing the names of the free draw for the two prizes to be awarded. The first was the art print to T. Atherton and the second award the book gift certificate to M. Lessard.
