Canadair : the corporation
Canadair was created 11 November 1944 by the government of Canada to assume the assets of Canadian Vickers (a branch of Vickers in the U.K., involved in ship and aircraft construction.)
In 1952, Canadair merged with the US Electric Boat Company to form General Dynamics. Shareholding and nationality are unclear and deserve further research.
In 1976, the government of Canada re-acquired Canadair Ltd. from General Dynamics as a federal crown corporation.
In 1986 the crown corporation experienced severe losses during its development of a business jet (Challenger) and the government of Canada sold all assets to Bombardier Inc. for C$120 million. Bombardier continued the use of the 'Canadair' name for many years, but appears to now have dropped it {2016.]
