Toronto of Old, H. Scadding

Henry Scadding, D.D. had his seminal work Toronto of Old - Collections and recollections illustrative of the early settlement and social life of the capital of Ontario", published by Adam, Stevenson and Co. of Toronto in 1873.

This work has been reprinted [notably Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1966], but the reprints do not contain the last four chapters concerning the harbour and asscociated maritime activities. We have therefore reproduced the text of chapters 29 to 32:

• Chapter XXIX - The Harbour: its Marine, 1793 - 99.
• Chapter XXX - The Harbour: its Marine, 1800 - 1814.
• Chapter XXXI - The Harbour: its Marine, 1815 - 1827.
• Chapter XXXII - The Harbour: its Marine, 1828 - 1863.
