Prince Rupert Dry Dock, Prince Rupert BC

Prince Rupert Dry Dock was primarily a maintenance and repair facility for its owner, initially the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad, later Canadian National Railway.  The shipyard was completed in 1915 when a 20,000-ton floating dock was assembled at the site. The wooden pontoons were built by the general contractor and the steel wing walls were imported and erected at the site.  The yard was equipped to build steel vessels but more frequently built wooden boats of various types for the local market.  In World War One, it built two good-sized cargo ships and in World War Two, it built four minesweepers and 15 cargo ships.  After the Second War the shipyard slowly faded away, the dry-dock finally being sold in 1955 and moved to Seattle.  A total of 68 hulls have been identified as being built by them but the hull numbering sequence stopped at 60.  See the site from the air on Google here.
