Milwaukee Shipyard, Milwaukee WI

The yard that came to be known as Milwaukee Shipyard was started in 1863 by a group of 12 ships' carpenters operating as a co-operative. It was acquired by Allan, McClellan & Co. in 1867 and then in 1874 by Captain John Fitzgerald, who incorporated it as Milwaukee Shipyard Company. In 1894, the company merged with Wolf & Davidson as Milwaukee Dry Dock Company, but its days as a shipbuilder were over: it would concentrate on ship repair from then on. The yard was on the south bank of the Menominee River, near the Sixth Street bridge. If anyone can add to the table below, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
