J. F. Duthie and Co., Seattle WA

J. F. Duthie came from the well-known Scottish shipbuilding family in Aberdeen: he worked briefly at Herreshoff, in Bristol RI, and then at Wolf & Zwicker, in Portland OR, before starting his own yard in 1911. It was located on the East Waterway, on land leased from the Port of Seattle, just north of the S.W. Spokane Street bridge: see the site from the air on Google here. The yard was enlarged in WWI to build cargo ships for the U.S. Shipping Board. In 1928, the name was changed to Wallace Bridge Company - Wallace Duthie was J.F.'s son - and they left the maritime sector. Comments or queries, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
