Ventnor Boat Works, West Atlantic City NJ

Ventnor Boat Works was started in 1902 in Ventnor, New Jersey, by Emil A. Apel and developed a major reputation for the construction of high-speed boats - including Malcolm Campbell's Bluebird and other world record holders. It moved to a larger facility, in West Atlantic City, for WWII and returned to the commercial market after the war, building many types and sizes of watercraft including rowboats, skiffs, tenders, race boats, runabouts, cruisers and sailboats, all wood construction, but gradually lost market share and faded away in the mass transition to fiberglass boats, closing in 1968 after their merger with Cruisalong Co. The yard was in the Bayport area of Atlantic City, at the extreme end of the road that connects US 40 to the Prism Career Institute and Lakes Bay Preserve.
