Albina Machine & Engine Works, Portland OR

Albina Engine & Machine Works, Inc., was founded in 1904 as a repair yard, by William Cornfoot, a Scotsman. It survived the lean inter-war years and flourished in WWII but weakened in the post-war years. It was sold to Dillingham Corp. in about 1971 and became Dillingham Ship Repair. When Dillingham liquidated itself in 1986, the shipyard division became Cascade General but concentrated its activities at the Swan Island shipyard, closing the original Albina yard, which was located on N. River Street, in the Albina section of Portland, upstream of the Fremont Bridge. You can see the site from the air on Google here. Comments or queries, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
