A. C. Brown and Son, Tottenville NY
This yard was started in 1873 by A. C. Brown, a fourth-generation shipbuilder and appears to have closed in the early 1930s. It was both a significant yacht builder and a major builder of tugs and other commercial craft, located at the foot of Amboy Road. There were several other small shipyards in Tottenville, but the only one to come close to competing with Brown was J. S. Ellis & Son. The table below includes all vessels listed in MVUS as having been built in Tottenville, with the builder identified where known - B for Brown, O for others. If anyone can add to or correct the data in the table, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
