Jakobson Shipyard, Oyster Bay NY

akobson Shipyard, Inc., was established in Brooklyn's Mariners Harbor as Jakobson & Petersen, in 1895. The founder, Daniel Jakobson, was succeeded by his son Irving in 1925, and the company moved to Oyster Bay in 1938. The yard was acquired by Moran Towing after WWII but got out of active shipbuilding in 1984 and was closed in 1993 because of environmental problems. It was located where Roosevelt Park is today. See the site from the air on Google here: you can see where their railways used to be but that's all. Comments or queries, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
