Stonington Yacht Basin, Stonington ME

Stonington Yacht Basin was started by George, Cecil and Sheridan Billings in 1936. It was active in WWII and continued to build boats after the war. It went bankrupt in the 1960s but was bought and reopened by Sheridan's son Dick. It changed its name to Billings Diesel & Marine, Inc., and continues in business today, although it hasn't built a boat recently. Visit the company at www.billingsmarine.com. The yard has a spectacular location, on Moose Island, just to the west of Stonington: see it from the air on Google here. Note that there is a similarly named yard, Stonington Boat Works, in Stonington CT: this yard is not that yard. Comments or queries, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
