Lancaster Ironworks, Perryville MD

Lancaster Iron Works appears to have had far-reaching involvement in "WWII emergency" shipbuilding, often by holding the government contracts and either using partners and subsidiaries, or otherwise outsourcing the shipbuilding itself all the whie controlling the supply of iron and steel. See e.g. Odenbach Shipbuilding and Florida Shipbuilding. However, they opened a small shipyard in their own name in Perryville for the war effort and closed it in 1950. It was located in Frenchtown, about a mile above Perryville, just below the railroad bridge. See the site from the air on Google here. Comments or queries, please email info@navalmarinearchive.com.
