Harry McConnell

Henry McConnell, 1859-1950.

Henry "Harry" McConnell was born 27 Feb 1859, Athol, Prince Edward County, and was a Great Lakes sailor all his life. He married Amy Tressa Hudgin in 1888, and lived on a farm on Royal Road, before moving to (the Slattery House) Elizabeth Street, Picton, in 1913. He died 16 Mar 1950 at his home at the age of 91. C.H.J Snider delivered one of the Eulogies at his funeral. The photo at the right was taken aboard C.H.J. Snider's ketch Kingarvie – a 65' luxury auxiliary ketch, the 123rd design by Herrick Duggan, who built her at Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, and was considered as one of his greatest accomplishments. Duggan sailed her on the Great Lakes in 1937. C.H.J Snider bought her in 1940, and sailed her until 1952.
