Schooner Days CMLXXXIX (989)
By C.H.J. Snider

The author, in this installment, deals with some of the economic difficulties for Lake Ontario schooners which experienced difficulties getting coal cargoes because of their medium size – a real problem after the McKinley Tariff of 1890 put an end to the more lucrative "Barley Days" trading. He uses the schooner Ella Murton as an example. (Ships Database entry here.)
